It was an event that everyone was looking forward to. It had been hyped for weeks and the time had finally come! The weekend of April 30 to May 2, 2010 was at hand, and that meant the PA DeMolay Superhero School spring leadership weekend was in full swing! What an event it turned out to be!
The fun began on Friday night, with 16 Chapters flooding in to Patton Campus in preparation for the weekend. By opening session the excitement was apparent, especially when Bro. Howard Wagner, State Master Councilor, began presenting the membership campaign prizes, which included four, full sized, 10 in 1 Game Tables to the Chapters that had reached their membership goal for 2009! Over $1200 in prizes was handed out, and that was just the beginning!
Saturday morning dawned bright, but evil was afoot, as DeMolays woke to duct tape covered walls, and posters touting the evil of the "villains" they would be spending the day with. After breakfast the conference briefing began, and each of the villains was brought in, one by one, and forced to face the charge that they were the ones behind the theft of the Crown of Youth. Each of them vehemently denied the charges, and it seemed that DeMolays present would have to spend the day investigating and gathering clues by attending workshops run by members and advisors.
As the day wore on, and the clues piled high, no one was safe from suspicion. Lunch turned in to a great time for some sleuthing, as all of the characters served up some dreadful foods. Dr. Hundenpoopen scooped up prodigious amounts of sauerkraut while El Zero passed out taquitos. Poison Sue offered up some questionable salad, while the Silver Sticker and Professor Chaos handed out fruit roll ups and gummy eyes, respectively. To top of the meal, Kendo Khan was ready with fortunes cookies for all!
With their hunger appeased, it was back to work for the members, who attended afternoon workshops on diverse topics, from ritual, to event planning, to etiquette with the Job’s Daughters, and even a quick dance lesson thanks to some PA Rainbow's finest! With the workshops winding down, it was time to find the culprit, and return the Crown of Youth!
After gathering in the media center, each group presented its case, with three groups believing that El Zero was the dastardly villain, while Poison Sue, the Silver Sticker, and Dr. Hundenpoopen took the fall for the others. Even the villains got in on the action, with Professor Chaos presenting more evidence, in the form of a crown covered in ivy! It seemed that there was no conclusive evidence when a sudden flurry of activity from the back of the room signaled an incoming message from the Legion of Nefarious Plots headquarters. It was quickly apparent that none of the scoundrels present was behind the plot, but rather a shadowy character named Le Tigre Orange, who admitted to the theft, and told the members that they would need to come to Convention 2010 to retrieve the item. (Check out the video taped message at right!)
The mystery being solved, it was time to relax as the members enjoyed some free time, and excellent meal, and a black light dance with Rainbows and Jobies in the function room!
It was a fantastic weekend, and one that will surely go down in PA DeMolay history!
