PA DeMolay News - Pilgrim Celebrates 85th Anniversary
Author: Bro. W. Thomas Moyer, DSMC
Group

85 years is pretty old by today's standards, but as Pilgrim Chapter proves, you truly get wiser the older you get. On April 17, 2010, members and friends of Pilgrim Chapter enjoyed a banquet to celebrate 85 consecutive years of active meetings and events, a feat that few other chapters have accomplished. The banquet, held at the Harrisburg Scottish Rite Consistory was attended by over 120 people. Members from local chapters such as Elizabethtown and George Washington were in attendance, as well as Bro. Tom Moyer, DSMC, Bro. Matt Maple, SSC, Bro. Matt Blaisdell, SJC, and Bro. Joe Chubb, ST. Also present were "Dad" Tom Labagh, Executive Officer for Pennsylvania DeMolay, "Dad" Dave Berry, Executive Secretary, and "Dad" Steve Logan (PSMC 1971-72). At the banquet, "Dad" Harry Horgan, Supreme Tall Cedar for North America presnted the PMC-MSA to Bro. Alex Levens. The blue honor key was presented to Bro. Joe Chubb, and 50 year member pins were presented to 6 Senior DeMolays of Pilgrim Chapter. In addition to the awards the chapter raised money during their Peanut Brittle Fund Raiser and Masonic Blood Drive which Joe Chubb presented to "Dad" Al Longnaker, Chairman of the 32 Degree Scottish Rite Learning Center at Harrisburg, with 8 dictionaries for use in each of the Learning Centers' classrooms.

Following the food and the awards, the real fun started when the entertainment! A professional hypnotist hypnotized 8 members, including all 4 Elected State Officers present. Hilarity ensued, as each of the members performed silly tricks while under the entertainers spell. All ended well though, and the members and guests were entertained by the act. Before leaving, all in attendance had to check out the historical items that were available to view, which included an original, hand printed Chevalier roster dating back to the 1930's.

The members and advisors of Pilgrim Chapter were very appreciative for all the support that they have been given over the past 85 years and hope to see everyone back in 5 years for the 90th Banquet! Congratulations to MC Matt Skinner on a great event!
