Bro. Henry Pak, of Freedom Chapter - Order of DeMolay, was awarded the Past Master Councilor’s Meritorious Service Award on June 1, 2010. Henry lives in Philadelphia, PA and was accompanied to the ceremony by two other Freedom Chapter members, Bros. Kris Walkling and Rob Walkling. To be eligible for this award, Henry first had to serve as the Master Councilor. As the Master Councilor, Henry was responsible for creating a plan for his chapter and carrying out that plan during his term. As DeMolay is a community oriented organization, he was required to plan and execute a series of events to raise funds for charitable contributions. Henry’s projects raised over $1000. He was also responsible for insuring the future of his chapter by admitting at least three new young men. Henry is currently studying Business Administration at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA and should graduate in June 2014.
The award was presented at a meeting of the Philadelphia/Crooked Billet #10 Forest of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of North America at the invitation of Bro. Richard Schoeniger, Grand Tall Cedar. The Tall Cedars are a Masonic organization that supports the Muscular Dystrophy Association as its primary charity. More information on the Tall Cedars can be found at http://www.tallcedars.org/. They have underwritten this award since the 1960s. To show support for Henry and the high regard for recipients of this award, a number of the Supreme (national) officers traveled to Hatboro, PA for the presentation. Harry “Hap” Horgan, Supreme Tall Cedar (STC); Harvey “Bud” Willard, Junior Deputy STC; Dick Feeser, Junior Deputy STC elect; Curt Beam, Regional Director for Region 5; Perry Strauss, Past STC and Jim W. Reed, Past STC. The award was presented by Harvt "Bud" Willard, who was himself is a Senior DeMolay. Hap Horgan said, “From the leadership skills Henry demonstrated to earn this award, we can be sure that he will be a man that makes this country a better place in the future.”
