Everyone knows that when the heat of summer strikes Patton Campus that it's time for the annual PA DeMolay softball tournament. A tradition for well over 20 years, this tournament took an extra twist in 2010! This year marked the first time that the tournament was co-ed, with members of Rainbow and Job's Daughters competing alongside DeMolay brothers.
The weather couldn't have cooperated more, as the temps took a downward trend, leaving the players basked in sunny, 80 degree weather, and ready for competition.
The Softball tournament has been "Brotherhood" style for some time (meaning that the teams are composed of randomly grouped guys, not Chapters) but the brothers were more than welcoming of having their "sisters" play alongside them! The teams were divided and given names like the "Nationals," "Astros," and other major league teams, making it easy to get into the spirit! The competition was friendly, and everyone was out to have a good time rather to score a major win.
Once the softball tournament concluded, it was time for the tennis challenge, which pitted all comers in a test of their "racquet" skills. The competition was intense, as several of the players were actual members of their tennis teams back home. At the end of the day Bro. Alex Rodriguez placed first, with Bro. Joe Chubb taking second, and Bro. Lewis Clementson taking third.
Not to be outdone, the attendees picked up their bats one last time for a chance to be the "Home Run Derby" champion. After several swings, and some misses, Bro. Ricky Caldas took home the plate shaped plaque.
